The Best Longer Length and Bermuda Shorts for Girls

It can be tough to find Bermuda or longer-length shorts for little, big, and tween girls. The market is flooded with short styles that don’t offer a lot of coverage. For the parents and girls who prefer a midi or a longer length, we have rounded up a few of the best age-appropriate styles of shorts that still look great while providing a little bit more coverage.

If you are looking for some soft and comfortable summer styles, have comfy waistbands, and most importantly, a reasonable hemline length scroll down for some of the most well-loved and highly rated longer-length shorts for girls.

Ballerina 24/7 Uniform Bermuda Jean Shorts for Girls

The Ballerina 24/7 Uniform Bermuda Jean Shorts for Girls look like cute denim but feel like soft leggings, so they are a great option for kids who like soft fabrics. The Ballerina is a comfy close-fitting style that is popular for girls who are looking for a longer length. They have an interior adjustable waistband, which is pretty much standard on kids’ shorts these days.

Like a lot of Old Navy’s kid’s styles, they have a snap-button closure in sizes 5-8 and then a regular button closure in sizes 10-16 since it is hard for little fingers to use a button and much easier for them to do the snap. One downside to this style is the pockets in the front are not useable, but they do have a functional pocket in the back.

Gap Midi and Bermuda Shorts

Midi can be a nice alternative to Bermuda lengths since it still gives a decent amount of coverage with the added benefit of keeping kids cooler than a full-length Bermuda style. Midi shorts are shorts usually styles with an inseam of over 3 inches.

Gap can be an excellent retailer to find a few midi-length options. They only sell the shorts seasonally, and their styles change quite quickly, so you may have to hunt around Gap’s website to find some styles that you like.

OshKosh B’Gosh Girls’ Skimmer Short

The other style you can look for if you like a longer hemline is a skimmer short. In women’s clothes, a skimmer short usually falls below the knee, but depending on sizing and the height of your child, a skimmer style should fall somewhere near the knee. A great one to check out is the OshKosh B’Gosh Girls’ Skimmer Short. They are made from a peached twill that is comfy yet very durable.  They have an adjustable waistband, functional front pockets(the back pockets are decorative only), and have a button fly closure, which may not be the best for younger girls who have trouble doing up buttons (as most do). Some of the colors have a cute pattern on the material like stars or cat faces.

Other Options:

It is hard it is to find age-appropriate shorts for girls when all the styles seem to be ridiculously short. If you didn’t see that perfect pair on our list for school or play here are a few other options you might want to check out:

Uniform Shorts- If you really want a good selection of Bermuda styles and don’t mind sticking with basic colors, uniform shorts are well worth a look. Some are very ‘uniform’ looking, but there are a few options that can work well as regular, modest shorts that are cool and comfy to wear in the heat.

Basketball Styles– Another option you may want to consider is basketball styles of shorts, which are the longer length athletic shorts, in either boys or girls’ sizing. Some brands come in colors that appeal to girls, and the lengths are almost always midi or longer. You may have some issues with the fit around the waist or hips, but if you shop around, you may be able to find a suitable style. All of the big athletic brands have options, including Nike, Adidas Under Armour, etc. Old Navy also has cheap comfy basketball or athletic shorts in general that may work for some girls.

Denim– We didn’t really focus on them much in this post, but it usually isn’t hard to find long denim style of shorts for a girl, especially a tween or older girl at stores like JC Penny, Kohls, Old Navy, or Gap that usually have at least one option. The only problem with the denim styles is that they can get a bit hot in the heat if the length is too long.

Bicycle Shorts– Bicycle shorts can also work if you are very concerned about length. Bicycle shorts will have a more form-fitted look, but if worn with a longer T-shirt, they can provide that extra coverage while still keeping your child cool in the heat.
